There’s No Supplement for Healthy Eating

Dr. Mehmet Oz, host of the popular “Dr. Oz” TV show, has been called out recently for promoting untested dietary supplements. A Congressional Subcommittee is investigating Dr. Oz for false claims about the health benefits of “Pure Green Coffee,” marketed as a miracle weight loss cure despite a lack of scientific evidence. While Dr. Oz is the most high-profile celebrity to be caught in the controversy surrounding dietary supplements, he is not alone in facing scrutiny.

In 2013, a research study in the Annals of Internal Medicine suggested that multivitamins are not useful in maintaining health, while USA TODAY recently reported on the unregulated dietary supplements industry and the undisclosed ingredients found in some multivitamins.
