How Much Sleep Is Enough?

Sleep needs are largely individual — some people can thrive with less sleep than others. However, different age groups generally require different amounts of sleep. Babies need up to 18 hours of sleep each day, while most adults require 7 to 9 hours. However, the 2011 Sleep in America poll conducted by the National Sleep Foundation revealed that 63 percent of adult Americans sleep less than 7 hours a night, and 15 percent sleep less than 6 hours on weeknights.
