The causes of anxiety disorders are not fully known, however, scientists believe that they are most likely the result of a combination of factors including changes in the brain, environmental stress, genetics, and psychological and developmental factors. Anxiety can also manifest due to medical conditions such as hyperthyroidism, heart failure or COPD, and the use of certain medications or drugs such as corticosteroids, cocaine, amphetamines, and excessive amounts of caffeine.

Just as there is a separation of business from pleasure, so is there a separation of emotions from decision-making, yet a person who is emotionally healthy is characteristically better suited to make decisions than an emotionally unhealthy person.
